GET WINDOWS 10 FOR FREE!

Windows 10FREE WINDOWS 10!

Well, sort-kinda. Not from scratch, but rather you can upgrade a Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 PC to 10 for absolutely free.  If you're looking for more hardware to enable your work-from-home, or your kids school-from-home or even your family's entertainment, you may already have the computer that you need. You just have to upgrade it to Windows 10. And pricewise, you can't get better than free!

When Windows 10 was first introduced, Microsoft offered users a free upgrade from any older version of Windows, and that offer expired on July 29, 2016. In May of 2016 Microsoft announced that the free upgrade offer would be extended to users of assistive technologies (generally for people with disabilities or elderly people). Many people who did not sue assistive technologies used this offer to upgrade. This program ended on December 31, 2017.

However, users with a Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 computer that run the Microsoft upgrade tool can still upgrade to Windows 10 at no cost. they get a digital license to the OS and can reinstall Windows on the same hardware repeatedly (Windows will re-activate upon installation). Too good to be true? Absolutely, but if you need another PC and have a Windows 7 machine gathering dust in the basement, now's the time to dust it off and bring it up-to-date.

Or if you have valid installation media for Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 you still have more options if your technically inclined. If you have old computer parts lying around, you could assemble them into a working computer onto which you install Windows 7. After activating it, just run the Windows update tool on it and update it for free. or again, if you have a PC without a hard drive, hard drives 9and solid-state drives) are cheap. Get one, put it in and install Windows 7 or 8 or 8.1. then simply upgrade to 10. A little extra work but a free copy of Windows.

To actually upgrade, it's quite simple. Go to Microsoft's upgrade web page:

Upgrade your Windows PC

Select the first option "Using the tool to upgrade this PC to Windows 10". You'll see this:

Upgrade details

Oddly, it says that either you need to reinstall Windows 10 on a PC you've already successfully activated Windows 10 on or "You have a license to install Windows 10 and are upgrading this PC from Windows 7 or Windows 8.1". Well you don't, but don't worry, the upgrade will work just fine.

Follow the instructions on the page, which means downloading the Download Tool and running it. Follow the prompts and you'll get to this window:

Time to upgrade!

Just click "Next" and let it roll. When you're done you'll see that you now have an upgraded Windows 10 computer. Just be sure that you have enough RAM to work comfortably (4 GB's minimum, 8 is WAY better, 16 better still!).

If you like this idea and are thinking of taking advantage of it, you might want to do so sooner than later. While Microsoft has enabled this to work for literally years, it's never acknowledged it, and could pull the plug anytime it wants.
